Appointments: Requesting and Attending Them

If you want to reserve a time to meet face-to-face outside of my posted office hours, you’ll need to schedule an appointment.  All appointments last 20 minutes.

How to Request an In-Person Appointment

E-mail me a minimum of 24 hours before you’re hoping to meet at Catherine.Bean@anokaramsey.edu to request an in-person appointment, including the following information:

Three different times at which you are free for our appointment.

What you would like to discuss at our meeting.

Your exact questions and concerns regarding your specific course assignment so that I can prepare materials if necessary or maybe even respond prior to the meeting with helpful answers and references.  Letting me know what you want to discuss ensures that we make the best use of our 20 minutes together.

|Note that the topics of discussion during live-meetings should focus solely on the students’ class assignments. I will only meet with students to discuss coursework that is on time, either in-progress, or graded, returned work that was submitted on time.

I will not meet with students who have no specific coursework to discuss.

I will not meet with students to listen to complaints about grades.  All of your professors are experts in their subject areas, and as such, their grades are to be considered final and binding.  On the other hand, it IS appropriate to discuss ways in which to improve your coursework.

I will not meet with students to look at late work. I do not read or assign credit for late work (see our course Syllabus for policy details on late assignments).

After I respond to your meeting request, it is your responsibility to then reply to me and confirm the meeting time. If you do not reply within a reasonable time with a confirmation—at least by the day before, not the day of—the requested meeting time, then the appointment will not be confirmed, and you will need to request a later appointment.

Please also note that if a student sets up an appointment but then fails to show up, I will not reschedule another appointment with that student.

How to Prepare for Our Meeting

Before we meet, be sure that you have with you all of your relevant coursework and materials.

Bring the assignment you are working on that you wish to discuss. Have specific questions relating to your work ready to ask in order to guide the face-to-face meeting, so that we can effectively use our time together.

Arrive to the meeting on time.  Appointments last for 20 minutes from the scheduled start-time, so if you arrive late, we will not have a full 20 minutes together to discuss your work.
