I am in my second year at Anoka Ramsey Community College as a full time professor of Biology. At ARCC I teach a variety of courses, including lectures and laboratories for BIOL 1103 (Environmental Science), BIOL 1106 (Principles of Biology I), and BIOL 1107 (Principles of Biology II). I'm currently teaching BIOL 1100 (Unifying Concepts in Biology) both on the Coon Rapids campus as well as online. I also teach the laboratory component of BIOL 2113 (Human Anatomy and Physiology I).
I have a B.A. in Biology from Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, MN where I studied herbaceous vegetation communities and deer browse along an edge-to-interior gradient in old growth forest in Nerstrand Big Woods State Park. I also have a M.S. from Michigan State University in Zoology where I studied the effects of habitat fragmentation on subtropical dry forest lizard communities in Puerto Rico. I recently finished my Ph.D. (also from Michigan State University) in Zoology and Ecology/Evolutionary Biology/Behavior where I investigated amphibian population trends and the influence of habitat and landscape characteristics on frog and toad abundance and distribution in southern Michigan wetlands (whew!).
My favorite pastimes involve my family (you see my daughter Sarah in the picture above) and pretty much anything in the great outdoors (hiking, camping, canoeing, fishing...). A recent highlight was our vacation this past summer (2004) when we traveled to the Pacific Northwest.
