Education:

I am a graduate of Spring Lake Park High School in Spring Lake Park, Minnesota.  I completed my undergraduate degree in Mathematics and Secondary Education at Augustana College in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.  As an undergraduate, I participated in the Summer Undergraduate Mathematical Sciences Research Institute at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio.  I earned my MS in Mathematics from the University of Nebraska in Lincoln, Nebraska.  I am currently a Ph.D. student at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, MN, studying in the field of Mathematics Education.

Teaching:

I am a mathematics instructor at Anoka-Ramsey Community College in Coon Rapids, MN.  Prior to coming to Anoka-Ramsey Community College I taught mathematics in a variety of schools and settings.  When I was a graduate student at the University of Nebraska, I worked as a teaching assistant in the mathematics department.  I spent the summers of my graduate school years working as a teaching assistant with the Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth.  I also taught elementary and middle school mathematics as a mentor of gifted students in Lincoln Public Schools in Lincoln, NE.  After I completed my graduate studies I taught 7-12 mathematics at Meridian Public Schools in Daykin, NE.  Following that experience I taught high school mathematics at Blaine High School in Blaine, MN.

Professional Activities:

I am an AMATYC Project ACCCESS Fellow.  Project ACCCESS (Advancing Community College Careers: Education, Scholarship, and Service) is a professional development initiative for two-year college mathematics faculty.  The fellowship supports my participation in two national AMATYC (American Mathematical Association of Two-Year Colleges) conferences and one regional mathematics conference.  As part of my fellowship, I am conducting a collaborative action research project with Mr. Frank Monterisi Jr. from Trident Technical College in Charleston, SC.  In this project we are investigating the effects of alternative review sessions in our developmental mathematics courses.

I am the faculty lead for Success Stepping into College, which is a project that collaborates with local high schools to create a summer bridge program emphasizing classroom and lab instruction, and an academic year student support curriculum to ensure student success in STEM coursework. This project is supported by a MnSCU Center for Teaching and Learning STEM grant during the 2009-2010 academic year.

I am part of the MinnMATYC Mentoring Program.  As a mentor in the program I work with students at Anoka-Ramsey Community College who are interested in entering the field of Mathematics Education.  Students attend the MinnMATYC / MCTM spring conference where they attend or present at sessions in mathematics and mathematics education and meet other students and mathematics faculty.
