About Me Education: I am a graduate of Spring Lake Park High School in Spring Lake Park, Minnesota. I completed my undergraduate degree in Mathematics and Secondary Education at Augustana College in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. As an undergraduate, I participated in the Summer Undergraduate Mathematical Sciences Research Institute at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. I earned my MS in Mathematics from the University of Nebraska in Lincoln, Nebraska. I am currently a Ph.D. student at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, MN, studying in the field of Mathematics Education. Teaching: I am a mathematics instructor at Anoka-Ramsey Community College in Coon Rapids, MN. Prior to coming to Anoka-Ramsey Community College I taught mathematics in a variety of schools and settings. When I was a graduate student at the University of Nebraska, I worked as a teaching assistant in the mathematics department. I spent the summers of my graduate school years working as a teaching assistant with the Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth. I also taught elementary and middle school mathematics as a mentor of gifted students in Lincoln Public Schools in Lincoln, NE. After I completed my graduate studies I taught 7-12 mathematics at Meridian Public Schools in Daykin, NE. Following that experience I taught high school mathematics at Blaine High School in Blaine, MN. Professional Activities:
I am an AMATYC Project
ACCCESS Fellow.
Project ACCCESS (Advancing Community
College Careers: Education, Scholarship, and Service) is a professional
development initiative for two-year college mathematics faculty. The
fellowship supports my participation in two national AMATYC (American
Mathematical Association of Two-Year Colleges) conferences and one regional
mathematics conference. As part of my fellowship, I am conducting a
collaborative action research project with Mr. Frank Monterisi Jr. from
Trident Technical College in Charleston, SC. In this project we are
investigating the effects of alternative review sessions in our
developmental mathematics courses.
