Grading:
Before each lab unit, a 5-pt. online prelab quiz will be
administered via Desire To Learn (D2L).
The student is expected to review the material in the unit and
take the quiz before lab.
You will not be allowed to take the quiz after lab.
Notes can be used for the quiz, but it is timed, so you will not
have time to look up every question.
You are not allowed to reveal questions or answers to classmates
or else you will get no credit for the entire unit.
You will be allowed to drop one prelab quiz.
Lab
exams
are given as lab practicals with questions at several stations.
Students roam around to each station and answer the questions
presented there. Rules for
practical exams will be given before your first exam.
There are twelve 20-point exams given throughout the semester.
The lowest grade of these twelve will be dropped from your point
total.
There will be six activities conducted during lab that require turning
in as a handout.
Some of these are group activities in which the groups turn in a joint
assignment. Each student is
expected to contribute equally to the assignment (see pg. v in lab
supplement). Individual
assignments are expected to be in your own words.
Grade points:
Prelab quizzes – 10 (11-1) @ pts.
50 pts.
Lab exams -
11 (12-1 drop) @ 20 pts.
220 pts.
Additional assignments
70
pts.
Total
340 pts.
Schedule is tentative and faculty reserve the right to make changes.
Last day to withdraw from class is 24 November.
Academic Honesty
Plagiarism and cheating will not be tolerated in lab and will result in
a zero grade for any handout
or lab practical where academic dishonesty is discovered, a minimum of
an automatic letter grade
reduction from the
laboratory grade (10% decrease in the final laboratory grade) and, the
individual will be subject to sanctions outlined in the Student Code of
Conduct. All incidents of
academic dishonesty will be reported to Dean of Student Life.
Plagiarism,
either deliberate or accidental, includes using the exact wording or
paraphrased wording of another student’s work or from other sources
without proper citation (quotations and author name and year published
or website address). It is
preferred that all answers be in your own words when turning in
individual or group work. The

accidental plagiarism and have information on proper citations:

Plagiarism and cheating only degrades the learning experience and is
unlikely to benefit you in the long run.
Activities that are considered not acceptable in lab include, but are
not limited to:
•
copying answers from another student's lab practical, quiz, or
assignment or instructor’s key
•
looking at someone else’s test whether you actually copy that
information
•
knowingly allowing someone to copy your answers on a lab practical,
pre-lab quiz or assignment
•
informing other students of specific or general content on a practical
or quiz
•
willingly listening to specific or general content on a practical or
quiz (if unreported by you to an
instructor, you will be considered a willing participant)
•
using unauthorized written material or diagrams , e.g. cheat sheet,
during a lab practical
•
using exact or similar wording as that of another student, textbook,
website, etc. on an assignment without proper acknowledgement,
•
having someone else complete your assignment that is meant to be your
own work
•
moving pins, pointers, stickers on models, pictures, scopes, etc. during
a practical
•
helping another student cheat.
