Intro to International Business

Online Summer 2008

Course Description

An introduction to the essentials of international business and the environmental forces that have an impact on it. Topics include the economic, cultural, legal and political environments and the international management, marketing, finance, exporting and importing functions. An in-depth study of doing business in a specific country is required.

Course Objectives

Upon successful completion of this course, a student will have demonstrated an understanding of:

(1) understand the scope of international business and its impact on our domestic economy.

(2) illustrate the impact of globalization on the diverse economies of the world: developed and developing.

(3) compare and contrast the role of culture, politics, legalities and economics on the issues surrounding economic development.

(4) explain the role and benefits of international trade to world economies.

(5) explain the motives behind the methods deployed by governments to stimulate and shape world trade.

(6) illustrate how countries are affected by and respond to the international finance system.

(7) identify the organizational structures and strategies of international organizations.

(8) understand the complexities and major factors associated with modes of international market entry.

(9) describe the major global strategies used to develop, market, and manage the production of goods and services.

(10) explain the challenges and major strategies used when managing a global workforce.
